You water your world to make it grow, You clipped and tied and you broke through the stone, You branched out, you bathed and soaked, You twisted and climbed, you wrapped and choked, And when your roots were upped and cut, You fell hard, To see your calamity kingdom come To see your calamity kingdom come You water your world to make it grow, And you follow only where the light goes, you break back through the cold hard stone, And lay before another, another unknown, And when your roots are upped and cut, You fall slow, To see your calamity kingdom come To see your calamity kingdom come You find water for your world, One spilled drop from a high flying bird, You can see in the dark now, You can hear the birds, And from time to time you gaze through the dirt, To see your calamity kingdom come To see your calamity kingdom come

Fetch me a hair of the dog that bit me Coz I’m dying here Sling me a shot or a bloody Mary I’ll trade it all for a warm flat beer Coz I’m tumbling and I’m rolling Once more I lay strewn at the break of noon And I wait lonely for you With the bitter taste of laying to waste Everything we ever worked through Fetch me a hair of the dog that bit me Coz I’m dying here Sling me a shot or a bloody Mary I’ll trade it all for a warm flat beer Coz I’m tumbling and I’m rolling Yeah it’s crippling and it’s holding me And I don’t know anything at all now This decision has torn down The only shelter I’ve known And all it shows is that everything I wished for Was granted by the fistful of seeds unsown Fetch me a hair of the dog that bit me Coz I’m dying here Sling me a shot or a bloody Mary I’ll trade it all for a warm flat beer Coz I’m tumbling and I’m rolling Yeah it’s crippling and its holding me Once more

Well I'd rather lie here waiting with the drumming of the rain, As it scatters all the replays across the sliding pain, And the thunder roles away unaltered and untamed, And there you fall so softly, so soon. Well I wish that I could join you but it's impossible to say, When I will, achingly frustrated, slam the door on the day, Where the dreams will be as fleeting as immeasurably strange, And there you fall so softly, so soon. I wanna pair your disillusion with my entirely underwhelmed, I wanna circle your confusion in my chasing my own tail, And my unrighteous indignation and your monumental burden, Can lock in a war of shock and awe and won't realise we've left them, All the worry and the trouble that we can't lay to rest, Will tear us down. So softly, so soon. Well I wanna pair your disillusion with my entirely underwhelmed, I wanna marry your exhaustion with my nothing left to sell, and my unrighteous indignation and your monumental burden, Can lock in a war of shock and awe and won't realise we've left them, All the worry and the trouble that we can't lay to rest, Will tear us down. Will tear us down.

Truth is here that this will never stop, And I have gone to ground. You're losing tears from fears of waking up, And I have gone to ground. Don't make me back down, Or lay me back down, 'Til I dry out, Any more. Truth is here that you will never stop, And I have gone to ground. I'm losing fears from years of waking up, But I have gone to ground. Don't make me back down, (Don't make me back down I'll dry out in your love and I'll drown in you) Or lay me back down, 'Til I dry out, (Don't make me back down I'll dry out in you) Any more.

Wherever you go, there you are, Chasing down that old road again. And wherever you go there's a star, But it only shines above you every now and then. Until you fall through the night, Like a child of light, After all these years in the fight have come, To shatter your insight, Make you dream like a child all your life, Waiting for the light to come around again. Wherever you go there you are, Scrolling down that same page again, And wherever you go there's a scar, But it only shows to those who know your name. Until you fall through the night, Like a child of light, After all these years in the fight have come, To shatter your insight, Make you dream like a child all your life, Waiting for the light to come around again.

For the fairground it's lights down and the very last ride, And the world's in the dark. The footfall is scattered and the litter blows wild, And the world's in the dark. The world's in the dark. Extractors pump grill smoke and hotplates cool down, And the world's in the dark. And the drunk trip on tire tracks scarred deep in the ground, And the world's in the dark. The world's in the dark And all that made me feel alive is fading out of sight. You know I could scale the fences when no one's around, While the world's in the dark. I could clamber through the ghost train and never make a sound, While the world's in the dark. While the world's in the dark. Coz all that made me feel alive is fading out of sight. You know I could climb the service lines and never close my eyes, While the world's in the dark. And you'll be the heroes in your nightmares and I'll be the king of the skies While the world's in the dark. While the world's in the dark. Coz all that made me feel alive is fading out of sight. And all that made me feel alive is fading out of sight.

The riverwalk smelt like watergun plastic where the litter gathers under wood calved seats. The end-of-day rain cools your face, soaks your neckline, And the dank, orange lamplight floods the cheap screen print streets. Headlights and breaklights and halos of halogen light carparks and woodyards through roof gutter leaks, And a break in the clouds is as loud pistol pink as the watergun plastic by your bare, back garden, feet.
11.
Time was finite until you came and sat here by my side, And night fell so light, I could stay here in silence through sunrise, Coz I know I ain't lonely now. Life was an almighty fuck ton of bullshit that I can't hide, So you try and dry your eyes and stay in line, But I know I ain't lonely now. So you try and dry your eyes and stay in line, But I know I ain't lonely now. I know I ain't lonely now.

about

Jenkins and Hulst are from the uk and Belgium respectively and their music is gently melancholic and soundtrackesque, orchestral arrangements with the aesthetics of Indy rock. There are shades of Tindersticks, Belle and Sebastian and Joy Devision. The Literary, romantic lyric writing draws on the earnest and soulful song-craft of artists such as Paul Simon and Leonard Cohen.

“Jenkins is as convincing whispering as he is screaming… a passion and a dramatic quality impossible to ignore” - Bakken

“Accessible, heart-felt, matured, and delicious songwriting, ready to wake up the nerves of the modern psyche that had previously gone numb.” - Jack Attridge

Their process is intimate and informal, calling on a loose consortium of friends from the classical sphere to play and add texture and harmony to the bones of guitar and cello. They record wherever they happen to be and with whomever they happen to be with, usually on a laptop with just a couple of microphones. This lends an authenticity and a truthfulness to their work which becomes an integral part of their sound.

“A band with something to say, and a way of saying it that makes you a believer” - Neil Hart

We are a Guitar/Cello duo from the UK and Belgium and we have spent the last two years collaborating long distance on our first album. We launched Calamity Kingdom Come in the UK on the 15th April and in the rest of Europe on the 8th May 2015. This has been a truly DIY project. With NO Budget, this project has been made with help from friends and like minded professional musicians, mainly rock, jazz and acoustic in the UK and classical in Belgium. This includes names such as Brian Henry (Soul 2 Soul), Andy Robertson (Morcheba), Tristan Seume (one of the UK’s foremost finger style acoustic guitarists) and one of Belgium’s leading Concerto and Symphony Violinists Makoto Akatsu. Not to mention Pieter Hulst, a highly accomplished Cellist and myself an artist/producer, all working for the love of the project and a bottle of red wine at the end of each session.

What was extraordinary about this album for us is that it was recorded almost entirely on a laptop with a couple of microphones with parts written often on the fly or the night before. usually recorded in front rooms, bedrooms and makeshift studios across our two countries. All songs were written, arranged and produced by Christopher Jenkins and Pieter Hulst.
